Hey friends! You might remember last year I wrote a fun blog post about beauty resolutions I was going to try for 2017. I would say overall I did a decent job keeping up with those, but trailed off at the end of the year. This year I’m sharing a slightly different spin on it, and thinking of these things as longer-term habits that you should try to form, anytime of year! I will try to make these a little different from last year, but you should check those out too! So let’s jump right in.
Beauty Habits to Start Now
Always Hydrate! Both on the inside and out. I always try to drink more water to help my skin stay clear, but sometimes I am lazy at night about properly moisturizing my skin. If you have dry skin like me, don’t skip this step! It’s so important to nourish your skin, both topically and from the inside.
Wash Makeup Brushes Regularly. It’s so important to wash your brushes at least weekly, to get rid of all the build up. Build up is where bacteria can start to grow and that causes your skin to break out. Make this a habit starting this weekend! I like to give myself a spa day and do a mask on the weekends, that’s the perfect time to give your brushes a spa treatment too!
Exfoliate Regularly. This is another tip that helps keep your skin really fresh. You want to exfoliate at most once a week, because this helps remove dead skin cells and improve your cell turnover. Build up on your skin can cause it to look dull, rough, or just uneven. This is also great for circulation!
Toss Expired Makeup. How many of us just hold on to old bits of makeup because there’s just that tiny bit of eyeshadow left, or the very end of the lipstick, even thought we’re not into that color anymore. Am I right?! Makeup does indeed expire and can’t last forever. I like to take inventory of my entire collection a few times a year and just see what might bet getting old and needs to be thrown out. Mascara lasts about 3-4 months, lipsticks and creme products about a year, and powder products about 1 to 2 years. So definitely give your collection an honest look!
Give yourself a Facial, and Bath. I’m really good about doing a mask about once a week, but I have never really taken the time to steam my face, or soak in the tub. I always assume I’ll get bored! But I’d like to embrace slower living this year, so I’d like to figure out an at-home facial, and find more time to just relax and take good care of my skin.
