Hi everyone! Today I’m sharing my personal goals for 2018. I love spending time reflecting and setting new goals every year, and even each month! On Monday I shared my tips on how to approach this exercise on this post here. This is the method I used to come up with these goals for myself this year.
I tend to set too many goals and get overly ambitious. So this year I’m trying to simplify and just focus on a few areas that I want to create change in. I can still have smaller milestones, but mostly those are habits I want to get back in to, such as reading more, staying connected with family and friends better etc.
Without further ado, here are my main goals for 2018! I hope to stay accountable, and have broken these down into daily or weekly actions that I have to take. I’m hoping to automate my goals this way, so that instead of focusing on the huge goal, I’m just doing it 1 task at a time. Let’s jump in!
- Live my BEST life! In every day, even the ordinary ones, reach for total joy!
- You don’t need everyone to like you. Yes, you read that right! This was a huge epiphany and something my brother recently told me, you just plain don’t need the world to like you, you only need the right people to like you, as in your family, loved ones, etc. Don’t worry about pleasing everyone, focus more on the people that matter.
- Go where love lives. Move in the direction of where you receive kindness, compassion, and support.
- Remember your good work ethic! Remember how strong you are, and that as a kid you were never a procrastinator!

My 4 Main Goals for 2018
Goal: Get healthy and cement good habits. Strive to live in my best body, and love myself right where I am now.
How: I’ll be participating in a few fitness challenges this year, between ToneItUp and BeachBody programs. We also recently bought a gym-quality elliptical machine too! So I’m hoping to create some of my own 100 mile challenges like the ones that ToneItUp used to do. I want to aim to complete 500 miles in 2018! I’ll count any miles that run, walk, jog, or do on the elliptical, and then 10 minutes of ToneItUp HIIT workouts count as 1 mile.
I also really want to incorporate more yoga into my weekly routine. I really love the benefits I find from it, like working on my flexibility, spine health and lots of peace of mind.
For my meals and diet, I want to keep it very simple and intuitive. I am going to try to lean, clean and green, and stick to the ToneItUp nutrition plan.
Goal: Be More Present
I want get back into reading about the Law of Attraction. Meditation is another thing I want to start incorporating again, even just 5 minutes a day. I want to schedule time for myself, for family and friends. All too often months go by without a good break! I want to fit in more fun in my life.
I also set a goal to read more books! My current book list is short and has about 6 or 7 that I’ve been meaning to read, so I think going for 6 is very achievable, it gives me 2 months per book, plenty of time since I’m a slow reader. I will probably read during my bus commute to work, to turn that into some “me time”. I also want to do more arts and crafts, although I don’t know what sort hehe.
Goal: Uplevel my Blog
I’ve always had a long time goal of continuing my make my blog professional and more successful. I want to set up and stick to a good schedule and continue learning more about how to make my blog better and network so I can grow!
It’s tough because it always seems like there are so many people further ahead of me, or growing much faster. Recently I have even started to wonder why I want to blog, or if I should maybe stop. When I first started back in 2009, it was such a fun, creative outlet and kind of a diary of my thoughts about trends. But these days it takes so much to stand out, that it can feel like a chore and I do tend to put a lot of pressure on myself.
Sometimes I can’t help but wonder, is anyone reading this? Do my ideas help? I sure hope so! Deep down I have a fear that I’m being sort of ridiculous, trying to blog at my age and fit it into an already hectic life. I do think at some point, if something like a blog or other hobby isn’t bringing you the same joy it used to, it’s perfectly OK to take a break or step away from it.
Before getting to that point though, I want to give my blog an honest effort in 2018! I want to push myself to see just what I can create.
Goal: Make a Career Move
I’ve been in my same job and team at work for nearly 3 years, so I’d like to do some networking and maybe explore other teams at my company. I’m going to try to meet more people for the next few months and see how that goes. Other than that, I think it’s a good practice to leave work at work, and not worry about things when I’m at home. I’m pretty good at keeping work and home separate, but it’s always good to remind yourself that, so that you don’t bring home any stresses or hectic energy.
And there you have it! Those are my 4 main goals for this year, it still feels like a lot! But most of all, I just want to be more present in the everyday and just have more fun. What are you some of your goals? I can’t wait to hear!
