Hi friends! I hope you’re having a wonderful day. I have been steadily working on my Thanksgiving menu since for the first time, I will be hosting in my own home! Normally I have spent Thanksgiving in New Jersey with my parents and brother, which I absolutely love. But since getting married, I spent my first wedded Thanksgiving with my husband’s family in Washington, his cousin and family hosted, and it was a lovely big celebration. This year hubby and I are hosting at home for ourselves, his mother and his two 2 boys!
Now if you have kids you know that can certainly impact the menu – going easier on spices and sophisticated flavors keeps things appetizing and easier for little ones to participate in the fun.
But being that this the first time I will be cooking a Thanksgiving feast on my own, I’m hoping to create something really special that we can look back on as a fond memory.
Growing up in an Indian household my parents created so many amazing fusion dishes that were inspired by a traditional American menu but we created our own favorites. For example, instead of green beans my mom would often make a dry, curried okra that we loved. We always had a turkey but it was always seasoned with lots of spices.
When creating your Thanksgiving menu you want to include a few things:
- Turkey, gravy
- Cranberry Sauce
- Green & Snappy Vegetables (or your favorite vegetable dish)
- Pies (or your favorite desserts)
I’ve been doing lots of recipe researching to look for what we’d like to make and here is what I came up with! I don’t yet know how it will all turn out, but that’s part of the fun of it. Wish me luck! All of these have awesome videos that will show you how to make them!
